Chicago Eats
Chicago isn’t just all about deep dish pizza and Italian beef sandwiches. Although, I wouldn’t complain if it was. There is so much delicious food to choose from. Good thing I am a bottomless pit and calories don’t count on vacation!
Here are some of the tasty highlights:
Glazed and Infused
Donuts are making a big comeback lately and I love trying new creative flavors.
How cute is the name Glazed and Infused for a donut shop? I am sorry to hear that it is closing soon. They have such a variety of flavors to choose from.
As a raging chocoholic, I need to make sure I get my fix. The Chocolate 4 is a cakey chocolate donut with chocolate frosting and chocolate shavings.
We also had a Maple Bacon Long John. This is a raised yeast donut with maple glaze and candied bacon. The perfect level of salty and sweet. You do-nut wanna miss this!
Garrett’s Popcorn
Garrett’s Popcorn is a real Chicago classic and a must try when you are there. There are multiple shops throughout the city.
They have many options but we opted for what they are most known for- The Garrett Mix. A mix of caramel and cheddar popcorn. The sweet and savory flavors compliment each other beautifully.
My fellow and I compliment each other as well. I prefer the cheesy goodness and he prefers the buttery caramel. Perfect match!
Chicago’s Dog House
You can’t go to Chicago without having a Chicago style hot dog. Chicago’s Dog House was just the place to satisfy our cravings!
Poppy seed bun, pickle, tomatoes, pickled sport peppers, mustard, chopped onions, and a dash of celery salt. *Heart Eye Emoji*
We wanted a variety so tried a bacon bbq dog as well.
These are frips- a mix between fries and chips. Pure genius. Gooey cheesy sauce is a must.
Firecakes
Well it’s time for dessert again!
Firecakes isn’t your ordinary donut shop.
How can an ice cream sandwich be any more delicious? Impossible…you might say. Well you’re wrong! At Firecakes you can have a donut ice cream sandwich.
If you have a huge sweet tooth like mine, you may also want to try a Chocolate Hazelnut Long John. Then its time to roll home and lay down.
Chicago Bagel Authority
You can’t go wrong with bagels but at the Chicago Bagel Authority, they take things to the next level. They have quite the selection of sandwiches to choose from. All of the sandwiches are steamed which makes them oh so warm and melty.
After much deliberation, we decided to split two.
The first was one with corned beef, melted cheddar, bacon, lettuce, and tomato on an onion bagel.
Our second selection was Mikey’s Munch. Roast beef, pepperjack, lettuce, tomato, avocado and parmesan peppercorn dressing on an everything bagel.
Calories don’t count on vacation, calories don’t count on vacation, calories don’t count on vacation…If I say it enough times, I start to believe it!
