Chicago Deep Dish Pizza
As a gal from Connecticut, I grew up with thin crust pizza. However, on my recent trip to Chicago, my fellow and I got “thicky” with it. We tried three different kinds of deep dish pizza, that is.
These are my findings so you can decide for yourself which you would like to try!
Pequod’s
Pequod’s was the first deep dish we tried and we weren’t disappointed.
They are known for delicious caramelized cheese that tops their buttery crust. We went simple and ordered a medium- half cheese half pepperoni. I love getting 2 toppings in one!
Just look at all that cheesy goodness!
I really appreciated the caramelized cheese around the crust. The pepperoni was perfectly cooked to a crisp. We found the crust to be a little crunchier than the other pizzas we tried on the trip.
Lou Malnati’s
We decided that Lou Malnati’s was our favorite of the the three pizza’s we tried. So much so that we ordered one in the mail to have at home!
There are multiple locations throughout Chicago so you shouldn’t have a problem finding one near you.
We went halfsies on a small. Sounds like not enough food but trust me, these pizzas are heavy. You’ll feel like you need to pass out in no time.
Half our pizza was the “Lou” which is spinach, sliced tomatoes and cheese on a buttercrust. We opted for no mushrooms. The other half was the “Malnati Chicago Classic” which is made with lean sausage and tomato sauce on a buttercrust.
I really enjoyed the texture of their buttercrust. The ratio of crust and toppings was great and I was pleasantly surprised by the sausage. I don’t usually like meat on my pizza!
The Original Uno Pizzeria
Uno’s is where deep dish pizza started so we knew we had to give it a go. The wait times can get long so try not to go during peak eating hours.
This time we ordered two individual pizzas.
The Four Cheese and Pesto
And a plain cheese
A real classic!
Head to Chicago and say cheese! Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to wipe the drool off my keyboard…
